Publications and appearances in major media outlets including BBC, Washington Times, Al-Jazeera English, Al-Jazeera Arabic, Open Democracy, The National and Foreign Policy. Yilmaz worked for Al Jazeera Türk as Head of Quality Assurance. He taught at George Mason University, Trent University Bilkent University and Marmara University. He worked as the Foreign News Editor at Star Newspaper and was Visiting Fellow at European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR). He was a member of IISS (International Institute for Strategic Studies).
